History about the Regional Passport Office Chennai:
Established in 1955, the Passport Office of Madras (now Chennai) was located in George Town. It was shifted to 26, Haddows Road, Nungambakkam or the Shastri Bhavan. At that time the Chennai RPO used to cater to the passport needs and queries of not only the people living in Tamil Nadu, but also in Pondicherry (now Puducherry), Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.
At present, however, the RPO deals with the issuance of passports only to the residents of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
The Union Government of India has envisioned to offer passport services to the citizens of India on time, in an absolutely transparent and reliable manner that is accessible to all. The procedure should be such that everybody is comfortable with that. The process of getting the passport is quite streamlined and the workforce employed to deliver such results should be trained, committed and motivated.
